Reflecting the festive theme of Purim, the Friendship Circle at the Jewish Children's Museum hosted a grand carnival on Monday, Shushan Purim for over 150 children and their families. What was introduced as an event quickly ballooned into a no-holds-barred Purim bash!
All through the room and all afternoon, volunteers assisted Friendship Circle children in celebrating this most exciting holiday. The carnival was arranged and headed by FC Program Director Chayle Eckhaus. Friendship Circle director Tzirl Goldman points out, “It is very easy for a child with special needs to feel overwhelmed by the fast-paced and sometimes impersonal celebration of Purim. In this setting they experience the immense holiday joy on a personal level.”
The Friendship Circle Purim Carnival drew kids in for Hamantash-baking, cotton-candy-making and a list of thrilling activities that would do Coney Island proud. Carnival booths flanked the walls of the ballroom where joyful laughing mixed well with popping popcorn and bouncing moon-bouncers. A duo of danger-defying jugglers entertained the crowd late in the program causing one child to exclaim, “Friendship Circle makes the best parties and this is the best Friendship Circle party!”
